Situational analysis of antimicrobial resistance in the South-East Asia Region, 2018

An update on two years implementation of national action plans

Overview

Ever since antibiotics were developed in the 1940s, scientists have warned that their improper use will lead to bacterial resistance. On the basis of the data presented in WHO’s Global Health Estimates, by the year 2050, about one in six deaths could be due to drug-resistant strains of tuberculosis,  malaria, HIV and bacterial infections.

WHO’s efforts to work with Member States to develop their national action plan on antimicrobial resistance (NAPAMR) Since 2010, WHO has worked with FAO and OIE in a global Tripartite partnership for One Health to provide a strategic vision and ensure sharing of responsibilities to address health risks at the human–animal environment interface.
