Climate finance for healthier and more resilient societies: a practical brief for the Western Pacific Region

Overview

Climate finance is a critical enabler of healthier, more resilient and sustainable societies across the Western Pacific Region. As climate change intensifies health risks and places increasing pressure on health systems, countries need greater access to the resources required to protect communities, strengthen resilience and support low-carbon development.
This practical brief highlights how climate finance can be used to advance health outcomes both within the health sector and across climate-sensitive sectors such as energy, transport, water, food systems and urban development. Drawing on regional evidence, practical examples and lessons from across the Western Pacific, the brief explains the climate finance landscape, outlines pathways for accessing and managing funding, and demonstrates how health co-benefits can strengthen climate investment proposals. It emphasizes the importance of cross-sector collaboration, locally led approaches and investment readiness in unlocking finance at scale.
