Tracking progress in reducing maternal mortality towards 2030: brief

Overview

Reducing maternal mortality remains a central global health priority within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which call for substantial declines in maternal deaths by 2030 alongside improvements in women’s health and well-being.

This brief provides a monitoring-oriented synthesis of the most recent global, regional and national estimates of maternal mortality ratios (MMRs) for 195 countries and territories, produced by the United Nations Maternal Mortality Estimation Inter-Agency Group, and examines progress in relation to internationally agreed targets.
