WHO Technical Advisory Group on Embedding Ethics in Health and Climate Change Policy: report of the third meeting, 16 July 2024
Overview
The World Health Organization recognizes climate change as the biggest health threat facing humanity. In furtherance of its mandate of “articulating ethical and evidence-based policy options”, WHO’s Health Ethics and Governance Unit has established a dedicated workstream on climate change, health and ethics. The Technical Advisory Group on Embedding Ethics in Health and Climate Change Policy (TAG-Ethics & Climate Health) was established in December 2023 to advise and support this initiative.
In this third meeting of the TAG, held online on 16 July 2024, members discussed progress since the second meeting on developing a series of case studies to explore ethical considerations in specific climate and health initiatives or policies; reviewed a draft glossary designed to support consistent use of ethical terminology relevant to health and climate change; and contributed to the planning of a series of policy briefs on issues particularly relevant to decision-makers.
