First Global Forum of WHO Collaborating Centres: meeting report, 7–9 April 2026

Overview

This report summarizes the discussions and outcomes of the First Global Forum of WHO Collaborating Centres, held in Lyon, France, and online from 7 to 9 April 2026 under the theme “Collaborating for a Healthier Future”. It examines the strategic contribution of WHO collaborating centres to scientific cooperation, evidence generation, technical guidance and implementation support, and identifies priorities for strengthening collaboration across WHO regions.

The Forum highlighted the need to move beyond predominantly bilateral relationships towards more connected thematic and cross-regional networks, with stronger coordination across WHO headquarters, regional and country offices. Key priorities included improving the visibility and accessibility of technical expertise, addressing geographical inequalities in the representation of collaborating centres, strengthening institutional capacity and aligning activities more closely with WHO strategic priorities and country needs. The report outlines potential follow-up actions, including mentorship, digital collaboration, knowledge exchange and sustained engagement between forums, as a basis for further consultation and planning rather than formally agreed commitments.
