Overview
The WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia convened the Annual Regional Meeting on Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Partnership Contribution (PIP-PC) and WHO's Preparedness and Resilience for Emerging Threats (PRET) Implementation in SEAR from 27-30 October 2025 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The meeting brought together Member States, WHO headquarters, regional and country offices, the PIP Secretariat, the PIP Advisory Group, academia and technical partners to review progress in influenza pandemic preparedness and broader respiratory pathogen pandemic preparedness and response planning across the Region.
The meeting comprised two components: a review of implementation of the PIP Partnership Contribution under HLIP III (2024-2030), and consultations on PRET-aligned pandemic preparedness planning. Discussions focused on surveillance, laboratory strengthening, community protection, access to medical countermeasures, regulatory readiness, Unity Studies, seasonal influenza vaccination, and development of a Regional Roadmap and Action Framework for PRET based pandemic preparedness and response planning implementation. This report presents the proceedings of the meeting and outlines key conclusions and recommendations to strengthen sustainable, integrated and operationally ready Pandemic Influenza Preparedness systems across the WHO South-East Asia Region
