Expanded Programme on Immunization (‎EPI)‎ : Standardization of the nomenclature for describing the genetic characteristics of wild-type measles viruses

Weekly Epidemiological Record, 73 (‎35)‎: 265 - 269

Overview

A meeting was organized by EPI at WHO in Geneva on 26-27 May 1998 to discuss standardization of the nomenclature for describing the genetic characteristics of wildtype measles viruses. Measles genomic sequencing is an important tool to assist in the understanding of the epidemiology of measles, particularly in countries where measles elimination efforts are taking place. Molecular epidemiological studies become more relevant given the technical feasibility of global eradication of wild-type measles virus.
