Monitoring progress towards measles elimination

Weekly Epidemiological Record, 85 (‎49)‎: 490 - 495

Overview

Monitoring progress towards achieving elimination can only be accomplished in the presence of a surveillance system that meets the targets described below. Integrated epidemiological and laboratory-based surveillance is required to provide the necessary sensitivity and specificity to ensure that measles virus is detected. Countries with elimination goals should monitor the quality of their surveillance systems by periodically calculating indicators of performance. A minimum set of recommended core indicators and targets are described in Section A. Countries can monitor progress towards elimination using the 2 basic measures described in Section B.
