Overview
Following a 1991 World Health Assembly1 resolution,WHO has urged each National Tuber- culosis Control Programme (NTP) to work towards two objectives (the“WHO targets”) by the year 2000: (1) to treat successfully 85% of detected smear-positive cases, and (2) to detect 70% of all such cases, by the introduction of an effective approach to TB control.
