Non-communicable disease prevention and control: a guidance note for investment cases

UNDP/WHO guidance note – March 2015

Overview

Urgent action is needed to understand and mitigate the socioeconomic impacts of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) – principally cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes, cancer, and 1 chronic respiratory disease – across the world. NCDs account for significant levels of ill health in all countries. Each year fifteen million people die prematurely – between the ages of 30 and 69 – from NCDs, with over 85 percent of these deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)
