The Seventy-Second Session of the Regional Committee for the WHO South-East Asia Region resolved, in September 2019, to revise the goal for “measles elimination and rubella/CRS control by 2020”, set by the Sixty-Sixth Session in 2013. It adopted the new goal of “measles and rubella elimination by 2023”. In 2020, the SEA-RVC updated the currently available guideline to include criteria and lines of evidence for the verification of rubella elimination. This framework provides the core principles for the verification of measles and rubella elimination. It describes two essential criteria and five lines of evidence that form the basis of the verification of measles and rubella elimination. It is intended to serve as a guiding document for the verification of the progress made towards measles and rubella elimination in the Region, in line with the global guidelines.
