Surgical care systems strengthening

Overview

Following the unanimous passage of WHA resolution 68.15 (2015), on strengthening emergency and essential surgical care and anaesthesia as a component of universal health coverage, implementation of surgical system strengthening was begun in several countries through a three-step process of baseline assessment, facility assessments and national surgical planning. This monograph outlines this process and highlights success stories and lessons learned through the case studies of 8 different countries over the past 2 years.
