Overview

The private sector plays an essential role in the development and introduction of vaccines, as well as in on-going pharmacovigilance activities to ensure efficacy, quality and safety throughout the vaccines’ life cycle. Under the current pandemic, it plays a critical role in accelerated development of vaccines and therapeutics. Although diverse players make up the private sector, this module will focus on the vaccine manufacturers1 and their role in ensuring the safety of COVID-19 vaccines through pharmacovigilance activities, as described in risk management plans and more specifically in providing periodic safety update reports (PSURs).
