Compendium of molecular markers for antimalarial drug resistance

Overview

This Excel file presents the "Compendium of molecular markers for antimalarial drug resistance", providing a structured overview of genetic alterations associated with antimalarial drug resistance. The compendium is developed through an evaluation of laboratory, clinical, and genetic epidemiology evidence and is published together with background materials that describe the methodology and thresholds used in the review.

Markers are organized by individual antimalarial drugs currently recommended for the treatment of malaria by WHO. Within each drug sheet, genetic alterations are classified as validated, candidate, or potential markers according to predefined evidence thresholds. For each alteration, the file includes standardized fields listing the gene and alteration(s), the domain(s) of evidence supporting its classification, and links to the corresponding references. A combined sheet provides an overview of all markers and allows filtering by drug, gene, or classification category. A separate References sheet lists all publications contributing to the evidence base and can be cross-referenced with the PMIDs cited throughout the tables.

Together, these resources support malaria programmes and researchers to collect and interpret molecular surveillance data, track the emergence and spread of known resistance-associated markers, and identify priorities for further investigation and research.

Users should note that the compendium will be updated regularly and are encouraged to consult the website for the most up-to-date version.
