Overview

Current outbreaks of avian influenza H5 have affected large numbers of wild and domestic birds, in areas with previous outbreaks and in new areas. Despite the unprecedented number of outbreaks, only a few instances of human infections have been seen to date. 

This EPI-WIN Digest provides a summary of the current situation regarding H5 avian influenza, including H5N1; how the virus evolves; the associated risk for humans and how this risk is evaluated.
