Overview

Zika virus has a significant public health impact, notably by causing congenital microcephaly and neurodevelopmental disorders after infection in pregnancy, Cases of Zika virus disease have globally declined from 2017 onwards; however, Zika virus transmission has been detected in 89 countries and persists at low levels with intermittent incidence increases in several countries in the Americas and in other endemic regions.

This EPI-WIN digest gives an overview of the current Zika virus disease situation globally, drivers of transmission and integrated strategies to prevent Zika virus disease.
