Lack of a standardized approach for routine maternal and perinatal health data collection leads to missed opportunity of aggregating data at district, state, regional and national levels. Consequently, vital maternal and newborn statistics required for assessment of quality of care indices and for health care planning rely on estimates, which may not reflect the reality.
