Exercise PanPRET

Exercise PanPRET

Overview

The PRET simulation exercise packages are a comprehensive set of resources designed to support countries and different stakeholders in conducting tailored exercises for respiratory pathogen preparedness and response planning. These packages are versatile and adaptable, making them suitable for use by countries, as well as public and private institutions in diverse settings.

The simulation exercises are designed to:

  1. Test and validate existing respiratory epidemic and pandemic plan
  2. Update or develop new plans for respiratory pathogen preparedness
  3. Advocate for epidemic and pandemic planning for respiratory pathogens

Exercise PanPRET includes two main packages:

  1. Exercise PanPRET-1: A national/institutional, multisectoral simulation exercise that spans more than six technical areas and allows for customized injects to suit local needs. This exercise supports countries and institutions in reviewing and refining critical preparedness strategies such as multisectoral coordination, risk communications and community engagement (RCCE), and triggers for decision-making (escalating and de-escalating operations).
  2. Exercise PanPRET-2: A multicountry simulation exercise package that emphasizes cross-border collaboration and regional preparedness. This package is designed to strengthen inter-country coordination, enabling countries to collectively test and enhance their preparedness and response planning capacities for transboundary respiratory pathogen threats.

With adaptable scenarios and technical guidance, the PRET simulation exercise packages offer countries and institutions a structured approach to be better prepared for respiratory epidemics and pandemics.
