Expert meeting on using climate and weather information for predicting and preparing for cholera and vector-borne diseases, 25-26 June 2019

Report

Overview

Climate variability and change impact health risks worldwide. An important aspect of building health resilience, intersecting with strengthening health security and emergency preparedness, is enhancing surveillance, preparedness, and response to climate-sensitive infectious diseases.

As part of the implementation of the DFID-funded projects "Delivering Climate-Resilient Water and Sanitation in Africa and Asia" led by WHO, and "Predicting and Preparing for Cholera in Yemen" led by the UK Met Office, an expert meeting was held in Geneva on June 25-26, 2019. The meeting, titled "Using Climate and Weather Information for Predicting and Preparing for Cholera and Vector-Borne Diseases," aimed to advance a common understanding, the evidence base and best practices in this field. It brought together representatives from the operational community of practice as well as selected experts in the use of climate information for disease modeling.
