Overview
Globally, alcohol has nearly the same disease burden as tobacco, and is associated
with acute and chronic health conditions and social problems. Alcohol use and
drinking patterns differ significantly between men and women, age groups, ethnic
and religious groups, cultures and levels of socioeconomic development. The burden
of disease attributable to alcohol use is higher in males compared to females
