Overview
Tuberculosis (TB) is the deadliest infectious disease in human history and remains the leading cause of death from a single infectious agent globally. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that TB caused illness in 10 million people and claimed 1.6 million lives in 2017 alone1. The global TB community has made commendable efforts in the past decade to successfully attain the Millennium Development Goal and other international targets of halting and reversing TB incidence and mortality, respectively. However, despite the achievements to date, the global TB incidence is slowly declining at a rate of 1-2% per year only.
