Report of the second WHO meeting on Global Collaboration in Chemical Risk Assessment
Strengthening Capacity Building and Networking
Overview
Creation of the network began in 2010 at the WHO International Meeting on Strengthening Global Collaboration in Chemical Risk Assessment. At this meeting, participants identified a number of key issues and priority actions and discussed means of strengthening collaboration globally to support chemical risk assessment. Recommendations included establishing a WHO chemical risk assessment network.
The development of network priorities was shaped by both the discussions at the Bonn 2012 meeting and survey results. In early 2012, a survey of Risk Assessment institutions was conducted and respondents were invited to provide information on expected future areas of challenge and capacity building needs in risk assessment. The survey also solicited input on the potential role or function of the network and how institutions could contribute.
Progress in creating the network continued in 2012 at the WHO International Meeting on Global Collaboration in Chemical Risk Assessment: Strengthening Capacity Building and Networking which took place in Bonn. The meeting further endorsed the establishment of the Network, with discussion about its possible objectives, role/function, structure and potential sources of funding.
