Sudan and Sudan refugee response: WHO Health Emergency Appeal 2025

Overview

Sudan continues to face a critical health and humanitarian crisis, with 30.4 million people in need of support, including more than 7 million internally displaced persons. The ongoing conflict in the country has left more than 70% of the country’s health facilities non-operational or overwhelmed, with the impacts of the conflict also being compounded by climate challenges and economic collapse. Women, children, the elderly and the large population of displaced persons within Sudan have been particularly severely affected by the lack of available health services. More than 2.9 million refugees have fled Sudan for countries including Chad, the Central African Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya, and South Sudan placing serious strain on the health systems of these nations.

The ongoing conflict has also driven over 2.9 million refugees from Sudan to neighbouring countries, where fragile health systems have been placed under immense strain.
