GONE webinar report: Burundi's efforts to defeat onchocerciasis

Overview

In 2023, a new survey of larval breeding sites, followed by elimination mapping and a pre-stop assessment of Mectizan treatment, was carried out from March to August 2023 throughout Burundi. The onchocerciasis elimination programme will continue mass treatment in CDTI areas. As soon as the results of the onchocerciasis pre-arrest or elimination assessments are available, the onchocerciasis programme and the independent elimination committee will clarify programmatic actions. Burundi will pursue the objective of reducing the burden of onchocerciasis through integrated strategies and innovative approaches to achieve the goals of the global agenda in 2030.
