WHA Agenda Item 11.7 - Accelerate progress towards reducing maternal, newborn and child mortality in order to achieve SDG targets 3.1 and 3.2

Overview

This page highlights key targets that if achieved will help to promote survival and well-being for women, their newborns, children and adolescents, wherever they live. Many of these targets are United Nations Sustainable Development Goal targets that Member States are monitoring progress towards until 2030. All of them are also aligned with the strategic objectives of the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health. Others are included in specific global initiatives, for example, the Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM) and Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) initiatives, A Roadmap to Combat Postpartum Hemorrhage between 2023 and 2030, the Nurturing Care Framework, Global Accelerated Action for the Health of Adolescents, the Immunization Agenda 2030, the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of its review conferences, and specific World Health Assembly resolutions, like WHA72.7 (2019) on water, sanitation and hygiene in health care facilities. The table below provides the name of the global mechanism, the target set by that mechanism and the reference and links to the supporting documents.
