WHO dataset for injury

Overview
The WHO dataset for injury (DSI) provides a standard set of variables that are defined in a consistent way and ensure that all important data elements are captured for effective monitoring and quality improvement of injury care. It was developed through extensive consultations with global stakeholders, contains both core and extended data elements, and is embedded within other WHO tools including WHO standardized clinical forms and the WHO International Registry for Trauma and Emergency Care (IRTEC) that facilitate a systematic approach to each patient in the emergency unit. Widespread DSI implementation will allow for more efficient aggregation and comparison across groups of hospitals, regions, or entire countries. A variation of DSI to encompass all emergency care presentations beyond injury (WHO dataset for emergency care – DSEC) is currently under development.
