WHO Draft Global Action Plan on lead mitigation
Draft for consultation
Overview
Lead poisoning is a preventable public health crisis that affects hundreds of millions of children and contributes to millions of deaths each year.
The draft WHO Global Action Plan on Lead Mitigation, developed in response to World Health Assembly resolution WHA78.27, provides a framework for coordinated action to reduce lead exposure globally. The Plan focuses on four areas: reducing exposure to lead, strengthening knowledge and evidence, improving health-system capacity, and enhancing leadership and coordination. In the coming months – the draft Global Action Plan will undergo consultations with Member States to inform further revisions and refinement.
By bringing together the health sector, governments, industry, civil society and international partners, the Global Action Plan aims to accelerate action towards a world free from lead poisoning.
