The number of new cases of dengue continues to rise across the South-East Asia Region and currently a few countries are experiencing dengue outbreaks. There is a high probability that 2023 and 2024 will be marked by an El Niño event, which could increase the transmission of dengue virus and other arboviruses such as Zika and chikungunya viruses. The effects of climate change also are fueling mosquito breeding and the spread of these pathogens.
WHO-SEARO is convening a Regional Webinar Series to provide orientation for the health workforce of the Member States in the Region on the latest relevant guidance and expert experience on clinical case management, vector surveillance and vector control, outbreak preparedness and risk communication across the Region, which is considered urgently required to address knowledge gaps and improve dengue outbreak preparedness across the Region.
