This sanitary inspection package for a dug well with a hand pump contains:

1. Sanitary inspection form

A checklist of yes/no questions (i.e. risk factors) and a supporting illustration (showing the “unsanitary” condition) to help identify common risk factors and encourage planning for corrective action.

2. Technical fact sheet

Basic technical information and supporting illustrations on the water supply components (showing the “sanitary” condition) to support completion of the sanitary inspection form.

3. Management advice sheet

Guidance on the ongoing operations, maintenance and monitoring needed to keep the water supply safe, and on corrective actions to consider when risk factors are identified.

The sanitary inspection package may be adapted to the local context where needed, using the  editable version provided. Basic considerations for local-level adaptation can be found in Annex 4 of the Guidelines for drinking-water quality: small water supplies.
