Third United Nations High-level Meeting on NCDs
On 27 September 2018, the United Nations General Assembly is staging the third High-level Meeting on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), which will undertake a comprehensive review of the global and national progress achieved in putting measures in place that protect people from dying too young from heart and lung diseases, cancers and diabetes.
About the meeting
In 2014, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Outcome Document on NCDs included four time-bound national commitments to be implemented in 2015 and 2016 to reduce risk factors for NCDs, provide better care for those with NCDs, and track trends and progress.
The third UNGA High-level Meeting, being held on 27 September 2018, will be preceded by a preparatory process. WHO is using this website to make announcements about this process.
The scope and modalities setting out the dates, format, level of participation and organization for the third High-level Meeting will be negotiated and adopted by Member States in early 2018.
Negotiations on this modalities resolution may start after the review of a progress report WHO will submit to the General Assembly in late 2017.
