WHO AnthroPlus software

WHO AnthroPlus is a software for the global application of the WHO Reference 2007 for 5-19 years to monitor the growth of school-age children and adolescents. To show the continuity with the WHO Child Growth Standards for 0-5 years these are included in AnthroPlus for the three indicators that apply. The software opens by default in English but can be changed to run in French, Spanish and Russian. It consists of the following modules:

  • Anthropometric calculator
  • Individual assessment
  • Nutritional survey

Packages and Macros

The R package “anthroplus”

It provides WHO 2007 References for School-age Children and Adolescents (5 to 19 years) (z-scores) with confidence intervals and standard errors around the prevalence estimates, taking into account complex sample designs. It includes functions to calculate z-scores and prevalence estimates (and CIs), and z-score summary statistics (and CIs) It provides results for the indicators: height-for-age, weight-for-age and body mass index-for-age. The package is available in the CRAN repository at https://cran.microsoft.com/snapshot/2022-01-01/web/packages/anthroplus/index.html.

The output data frame includes prevalence estimates with corresponding standard errors and confidence intervals, and z-score summary statistics (mean and standard deviation) with most common cut-offs describing the full index distribution (-3, -2, -1, +1, +2, +3), and at disaggregated levels for all available factors.

Other macros

Macros in SAS, STATA or SPSS exist but are not completely aligned with the latest methodology for the calculation of the prevalence estimates and confidence intervals. They can still be used for the calculation of z-scores and prevalence estimates (not confidence intervals). These macros will be updated in the near future.
