Improvement of quality of research!
A visit from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) to WHO Bangladesh happened on June 28, 2022. A team with the Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed along with Professor Dr Md Atiqul Haque, Professor, and Head of Medical Statistics Division- Department of Public Health and Informatics, Dr Md Rassell, Associate Professor- Surgical Oncology, and Dr Md Maruf Haque Khan, Assistant Professor- Department of Public Health and Informatics visited WHO Bangladesh Country office for an important meeting to discuss strengthening of research capacity of BSMMU including Improvement of quality of the journal. It’s indexing to various authorities, especially Medline, training on the manuscript, protocol writing, manuscript reviewing, etc.

Dr Bardan Jung Rana, WHO Representative to Bangladesh, and Dr M Mostafa Zaman, Adviser- Research and Publication, welcome the BSMMU team. At the beginning of the meeting, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU clarified the meeting objective and mentioned the discussion points. After the discussion on enhancing the quality of the BSMMU journal for indexing, The VC proposed training the editorial team, hiring a manuscript editor, establishing an efficient editorial office, and facilitating the submission process for indexing to various global authorities. He proposed exploring the possibility of hiring a professional publisher.

Capacity building of the research of faculty members of BSMMU was another discussion point of the meeting. The Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU proposed support for training of faculty members for protocol writing, research methods, literature search, referencing, data analysis, manuscript writing & review, ethics in health research, and health system research using an Upazila Health Complex.
After the discussions on two issues, a decision has been made that WHO Representative will be invited for a visit to BSMMU to understand the ongoing developments better and the support needed from WHO for academic advancements. And BSMMU will send proposals for WHO’s considerations shortly.
