Dissemination Workshop ON Post Crash Response Initiatives by NCDC, DGHS

Highlights

Non-Communicable Disease Control (NCDC) programme of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) organized a “Dissemination Workshop on Post-Crash Response Initiatives” on Wednesday, 22 March 2023, at Oasis Garden, Hotel Pan Pacific, Sonargaon, Dhaka. The progress on the post-crash response initiatives recently taken by the NCDC-DGHS to reduce mortality and morbidities due to road traffic injuries was shared. This project was technically supported by WHO Bangladesh and financial support was given by UN Road Safety Fund. A technical committee has been constituted with representatives from different organizations and ministries such as BRTA, Fire service, Bangladesh police, Roads and Highways and others to provide oversight to the initiatives. A strategy costed action plan for policymakers and protocols training manual for health care providers have been developed under the initiatives.

A scalable model on pre-hospital care is being piloted on a 10 KM stretch of Dhaka Chattogram under Munshiganj district, Gazaria Upazilla. Traumalink presented a demo simulation of the pre-hospital care model in front of respected guests and dignitaries. Dr. Nusaer Chowdhury, DPM, NCDC, DGHS, welcomed all participants, and Dr. Ashim Chakraborty, PM-3, NCDC, DGHS, presented the overview of the post-crash response initiatives.

Md. Saidur Rahman, Additional Secretary (Admin), Heath Services Division who was the Chief Guest spoke about the strategies needed for sustaining these initiatives. Sk Mahbub A Rabbani, Director, Road Safety-BRTA and Sanjay Kumer Kundu, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Highway Police, were present as Special Guest. Dr Sadhana Bhagwat, team leader NCD unit of WHO Bangladesh representing Dr. Bardan Jung Rana, WHO representative of Bangladesh, shared WHO’s stand and commitment on the issue and encouraged further collaborative approaches to scale up the initiatives.  Prof Mohammad Robed Amin, Line Director, NCDC, DGHS, chaired the event and reiterated the commitment of the government to scale up the initiative. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Programme Manager-2, NCDC-DGHS.
