“A picture tells a thousand words." Basic photography and branding visibility training for the WCO staff

The two-day basic photography and branding visibility training was held at the BRAC CDM, Saver, on 26-27 July 2023. this training was designed to provide participants with a basic understanding of photography, and WHO branding & visibility. There are 18 internal staff from different technical teams of WHO Bangladesh joined the training. The workshop's objectives were, to explain the basics of photography, especially mobile photography, to explain organizational branding and visibility, to capture photos, to maintain the basic rules of photography, and to ensure proper branding and visibility for the organization.

“One photo tells a story, and photography is important to create the proper authenticity of any development activities. To conduct this orientation was required, and it is a timely initiative. This initiative will help to teach the WHO staff about basic photography, organization branding, and visibility. WHO will benefit in the documentation and uphold the Who image locally and globally,” said Dr Bardan Jung Rana, WHO Representative to Bangladesh.

Over two days, the workshop was well-designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of photography, branding, and strategies for enhancing visibility. On the first session of day one, WHO SDL Management welcomed all participants and shared the overarching objectives of the training. Ms Salma Sultana, NPO – Media & Communication, WHO Bangladesh, conducted the main sessions of the training. At the ice-breaking session, Ms Salma encouraged all participants to design their own profiles and brand themselves properly. In line with the first session, Ms Salma involved them in the 1st session with this exercise. All participants designed their profiles on A4 paper and hung them on the wall. it was an interactive session with a friendly atmosphere from the start. Subsequently, the workshop's schedule and guidelines were creatively communicated through card-writing, clustering, and captivating presentations.

In the first session, the Facilitator took the stage with a multimedia presentation delving into a pivotal juncture in the workshop and introduced a segment dedicated to WHO's mission, vision, and overarching objectives. The amalgamation of multimedia presentations and interactive dialogues imparted valuable insights into branding and strategic visibility. With finesse as its hallmark, the workshop delved into an intricate exploration of WHO's distinct visual identity. This encompassed meticulous detailing of logo application, colour schemes, typographical guidelines, co-branding protocols, and strategies for visibility across multiple platforms.

The hands-on practical session enabled participants to apply their freshly acquired knowledge within a real-world context. Constructive feedback on these practical exercises laid the groundwork for an enlightening presentation followed by a comprehensive plenary discussion, and one of the participants showed the techniques of photography and mobile camera operations. The engaging sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and the proficient guidance of NPO-Media and Communications Ms Salma Sultana and the team of SDL the workshop harmoniously fused theoretical concepts with practical applications, providing a holistic grasp of photography and organizational branding. The participatory format of the sessions, combined with hands-on activities, added depth to the participants learning expedition. The workshop has given the participants invaluable skills and insights to elevate their contributions to WHO and amplify the organization's communication initiatives with undeniable effectiveness.
