The WSP team of these municipalities assessed the water supply system for climatic and environmental hazards and came up with a risk management tool. The team also developed an improved and operational monitoring plan so that the identified risks are mitigated. They also conducted awareness campaign among consumers on the use safe water and its maintenance in order to minimize the possibility of recontamination at the user’s end. IEC materials were developed to effectively conduct the motivational campaign as well.
Rural to urban migration, unplanned urbanization, population density, inadequate management of fecal sludge, household waste, municipal waste water, industrial effluent etc. socio-economic factors that influence municipal environment. In addition, climate variability (temperature, rainfall, humidity considering seasons) and climate extreme events (flood, drought and sea level rise) also contribute to the deterioration of the quality of water and that could result in waterborne diseases.
