Cooperating to provide critical support in the midst of ongoing conflict in Syria
Overview
WHO began working with China in 2016 to provide refugee health services in response to the ongoing conflict in Syria, which has had a devastating impact on health care services.
Thanks to China’s contribution, WHO provided more than 45 thousand treatments of anaesthetic medicines, installed eight burn baths, supported a network of 21 ambulances, trained medical workers and rehabilitated a mental health clinic and emergency department of the oldest and largest teaching hospital in Syria.
Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon are hosting an unprecedented number of Syrian nationals. The cooperation with China enabled WHO country offices to provide critical support to Syrian refugees, including school health programs, vaccination campaigns, mental health outreach, and refugee health training programs, among others.
