National antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance systems coordination capacity
The coordination capacity is assessed by the establishment at country level of core components for effective surveillance suggested by GLASS, which are the presence of the National Coordinating Centre and the National Reference Laboratories to support national AMR surveillance, and the definition of surveillance sites.
There are 3 core components of a national AMR surveillance system:
The data gathered at the surveillance sites flows through the national coordinating centre to GLASS. |
National Coordinating Centre
establishes and oversees the national surveillance programme, gathers national
AMR data and communicates with GLASS via a national focal point
National Reference Laboratory
promotes good laboratory practices and supports laboratories in the national
surveillance system
Surveillance Site
collects basic demographic, clinical, epidemiological and microbiological
information from patients
