Millions of people globally do not have access to safe drinking-water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services and consequently suffer from or are exposed to a multitude of preventable illnesses. Unsafe WASH is associated with infectious diseases, health risks from exposure to chemicals and other contaminants in drinking-water, as well as impacts on well-being. WHO estimates the burden of disease attributable to unsafe WASH for key health outcomes and report on SDG indicator 3.9.2.
