Helping Member States to improve assistive technology systems

The WHO Regional Office for Europe works with WHO country offices to support ministries of health and social protection to develop assistive technology systems for the provision of appropriate high-quality products and related services. This includes the efforts described below.

  • Strengthening the different components that build a health system to provide assistive technology. These are: leadership and governance; financing; service delivery; workforce; assistive technology; and information.
  • Advocating for strengthening and expansion of the availability of quality assistive technology services. Guiding WHO/Europe’s work, the Rehabilitation 2030 initiative calls on all stakeholders to meet the growing need for rehabilitation and assistive technology in the 53 Member States.
  • Conducting policy-driven research on assistive technology. The Regional Office has accelerated efforts to support Member States in conducting policy-driven research on assistive technology using two WHO tools: rapid Assistive Technology Assessment (rATA) and Assistive Technology Capacity Assessment (ATA-C).
