On 6–8 February 2025, Tajikistan is set to host the annual winter school on health system transition for universal health coverage: strengthening primary health care and integrated care pathways. This capacity-building event focuses on presenting, discussing and identifying key practices, policies, and strategies for improving resource allocation, and coordination at the primary health care (PHC) level. Other objectives include strengthening the role and capacities of PHC managers and finance specialists, and enhancing interagency collaboration to prioritize and implement essential PHC financing reforms in Tajikistan.
Organized by WHO with support from the European Union, this year’s winter school will focus on affordable, high-quality health care for all Tajik citizens, as noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer now account for nearly 60% of all deaths in Tajikistan.
Over the past 2 decades, Tajikistan has been transforming its health system, shifting towards a strong PHC model based on family medicine. These reforms aim to make health services more accessible and efficient, with a focus on better financing, improved coordination, and smarter resource allocation.
