Behavioural insights on health service needs and access: Summary of a qualitative study among Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia, October–January 2023

Overview

Russia's war on Ukraine has resulted in the largest movement of people across Europe since WW2. Neighbouring countries, including Slovakia, opened their borders and offered services. It is essential to include refugee perspectives for planning appropriate interventions and policies.

Therefore, the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the WHO Country Office in Slovakia, supported by the Ministry of Health of Slovakia and other stakeholders, conducted a qualitative behavioural and cultural insights study (with a 3-month follow-up) to identify perceived health service needs and gaps and the barriers and drivers of uptake of health services among refugees from Ukraine.

The summary of results is available here. A detailed report is also available.
