Global health is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, but the world that is emerging from the pandemic a different set of challenges. Progress against infectious diseases and cardiovascular mortality has been substantial, yet diabetes, dementia, mental health and drug use disorders are placing growing pressure on health systems. At the same time, the transition toward NCD-dominated mortality is no longer limited to high-income countries—it is increasingly a global phenomenon.
