Conference on climate change and environmental susceptibility

13-15 June, Pune: The Armed Forces organised a conference to raise awareness and present solutions to alleviate the impacts of climate change on human and planetary health. Last month, 77th World Health Assembly called for decisive action to confront this profound and imminent threat to global health. WHO is supporting countries in building climate-resilient and low-carbon health systems and implementing cross-sectoral actions for climate-change adaptation.

World No Tobacco Day 2024

31 May, New Delhi: The annual World Health Organization World No Tobacco Day 2024 Award was presented to Odisha’s State Tobacco Control Cell, while the Regional Director's Special Recognition Award was conferred on Dr Mir Mushtaq Ahmad, Nodal Officer Kashmir, National Tobacco Control Programme and Generation Saviour Association, Punjab, an NGO. The awardees were felicitated for their outstanding work in tobacco control at an event organized by India’s Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on 31 May.

National Review Meeting on lymphatic filariasis

8-9 May, New Delhi: A National Review Meeting for accelerating lymphatic filariasis (LF) was held in New Delhi for systematic review of findings from the mass drug administration (MDA) campaign in February 2024. The discussions identified best practices and actionable outcomes to formulate a robust plan for the MDA round in August 2024. WHO provides technical and field support to the government, including mobilizing medicines from donors.

Kala-azar elimination programme review and training of trainers

2-4 May, Ranchi: A comprehensive strategic plan for kala-azar (KA) elimination outlining a detailed pathway for rigorous post-elimination surveillance and documentation for validation efforts was developed at the National Review Meeting and Training of Trainers for Dossier Preparation for KA Elimination. WHO is supporting the national programme in monitoring disease trends, assessing impact of control activities, and developing evidence-based strategies for impactful policy.

World Malaria Day 2024

25-26 April, New Delhi: A technical Workshop on National Strategic Plan 2023-27 and operational plan for high endemic districts was organised on 25 April to mark World Malaria Day. The meeting was attended by over 150 participants from all levels of government and partner agencies. WHO is assisting the national programme to reach malaria elimination goal through strengthening surveillance, quality assurance malaria diagnosis and treatment, integrated vector management, monitoring and capacity building.
