Bhekeli No 2 Sapori is one of the oldest island villages in Majuli with 348 inhabitants belonging to the Mising tribe population. The island village has one primary school and for upper primary education, students go to Kalbari, Namdeuri areas of Jorhat. There are five local mechanized boats for villagers for transit. Earlier, the char areas used to be abuzz with activities all around, lately due to the pandemic, the area bears a deserted look, as village folks stay indoors in their homes called chang ghars (houses made on stilts) as they wait for life to come back to a routine; paddy fields were empty as farming has come to a standstill as have fishing and weekly visits to the local market to buy or sell local produce.

On 21 April, Mr Jadumoni Hazarika, a community worker of the Jorhat Boat Clinic visited the village and met the local ASHA worker, Ms Bina Pegu, who was busy mobilizing beneficiaries for vaccination. Mr Jadumoni noticed that the villagers were practicing physical distancing and personal hygiene. Pregnant women and children were getting ready to come for a checkup to the boat clinic. After sanitizing their hands, people who needed consultation met Medical Officers and ANMs for checkups and for immunization. The District Programme Officer and Medical Officers apprised people about the COVID-19 pandemic and ways to protect themselves and others, while the ANMs, Ms Juli Phukan and Ms Rimpi Bordoloi administered vaccines to the beneficiaries. At the end of the session, three ANCs were done with seven immunizations. Despite odds, the team has been undertaking their assigned tasks sincerity, dedication and enthusiasm.
