“Being a community health worker, I am so proud that I am able to support my fellow villagers during the COVID19 pandemic. I am happy to share that I facilitated home quarantine of 45 people who returned to the village from other states when the lockdown restrictions were relaxed. I also participated in the Assam Community Surveillance Programme (ACSP) and conducted house visits in my area as a part of active community surveillance where the health workers covered 30 000 villages across the state to track patients with severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and Influenza-like Illness (ILI) to detect any community transmission of COVID19”, shared Suchitra.

Community health workers and the availability of primary health care facilities are key pillars of the national response to COVID19. The invincible spirit of millions of health workers like Suchitra Goala has contributed significantly to strengthening primary health care and ensuring health for all. Their unparalleled contribution during the pandemic has helped in enhancing the resilience of the health systems and the communities.
