National Training Workshop on Supply Chain Management and Warehousing of Essential Health Commodities

The World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) is organizing a five-day National Training Workshop on Supply Chain Management and Warehousing of Essential Health Commodities, for Central Medical Services Society (CMSS), from 12 - 16 October 2015 in New Delhi. This training will be conducted as a part of an ongoing support towards strengthening procurement and supply chain management of Central Medical Services Society (CMSS).

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India established CMSS in 2014, for the central procurement, storage, and distribution of medicines and essential health commodities for national level disease control programs.Currently, CMSS is engaged in the integration of the supply chain management (SCM) of medicines and essential health commodities for vertical programs such as tuberculosis, malaria and family planning.

The objective of the capacity building workshop is to provide insights into the best practices of warehousing, inventory management, and distribution and supply chain management of essential health commodities. The training will focus on concepts of supply chain management and critical SCM elements such as good practice standards, cold chain management, and quality management (using the recently installed QMS) at international levels. Specific training will be provided on organizing the procurement of commodities via the central office in Delhi thereby facilitating the integration of the SCM of the vertical programs related to TB, Malaria and family planning.

The training will be delivered to pharmacists and assistant pharmacists representing state level CMSS warehouses in the country, and will be attended by national and international experts of repute.
