Technical Advisory Group on Behavioural and Cultural Insights gathers in Copenhagen

8 – 9 February 2024
Copenhagen, Denmark

Event highlights

21 February

TAG-BCI and BCI Unit strengthen collaboration for visibility, advocacy and capacity-building initiatives and establish working group on culture

The Technical Advisory Group on Behavioural and Cultural Insights (TAG-BCI) and the BCI Unit at the WHO Regional Office for Europe discussed how to advance the value and contribution of the TAG-BCI to the BCI flagship, with a view to increasing the use of BCI for health in the Region in line with the regional BCI resolution and Member State needs.

The group discussed highlights from the BCI Unit’s work in 2023, including outcomes of the WHO regional meeting on BCI for health (12–14 September 2023) and the status of BCI use in the Region, based on Member States’ reporting and an interview study with BCI focal points. Discussions also highlighted past and future collaboration with TAG-BCI members across priority topic areas, support for in-country projects, and ways in which the TAG-BCI will help to drive them forward.

Two significant outcomes emerged from the discussions. Firstly, the TAG-BCI will be closely involved in enhancing BCI visibility and advocacy, as well as capacity-building, responding directly to the expressed needs of Member States. Secondly, the BCI Unit will establish a dedicated working group on culture in the context of BCI as agreed upon to support the development of an action-oriented framework, designed to integrate cultural contexts into BCI approaches.

Looking ahead, the TAG-BCI will continue the discussions through online and topic-specific meetings to further strengthen collaboration and provide expert advice on driving forward the use of BCI for health.
