Dr Egmond Evers

Acting WHO Representative to Myanmar

Dr Egmond Evers is the Acting WHO Representative to Myanmar, having assumed the role on 12 June 2026. A medical doctor and public health expert, he brings extensive experience in humanitarian response and health emergency management.

Prior to his current assignment, Dr Evers served with WHO in the occupied Palestinian territory, where he led the Organization’s emergency preparedness and response operations in Gaza and the West Bank. He has also worked at WHO Headquarters in Geneva within the Health Emergencies Programme.

Over the course of his career, Dr Evers has held leadership, coordination, and technical roles across a range of acute and protracted crises in Africa, South Asia, and Latin America, including conflict settings, disease outbreaks, refugee emergencies, and food insecurity crises.

Dr Evers is a national of Ecuador and the Netherlands.
