Departmental update

Jumla, Karnali province – WHO Country Office for Nepal handed over an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System to the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), in the presence of Professor Dr Sanduk Ruit, founder and the executive director of Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and chief guest of the ceremony; Honorable member of the National Planning Commission, Professor Dr R P Bichha; Honorable Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Roshan Pokhrel; and the Vice Chancellor of KAHS, Dr Mangal Rawal. This transition from paper-based to digital records marks a significant improvement in healthcare management, offering quality care and effective data handling. This system, supported by Pandemic Fund, will enhance public health emergency detection, strengthen International Health Regulations 2005 (IHR 2005) capacities and assist policymakers in improving healthcare outcomes. The system enables the integration of epidemiological surveillance with hospital and laboratory data, along with clinical case presentations. This not only strengthens public health intelligence for better decision-making but also improves the quality of patient care by maintaining comprehensive records at healthcare facilities, which helps with follow-up consultations. WHO will provide training and ongoing technical support until 2026, with regular updates.
