Kathmandu, Bagmati province - The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and WHO Nepal held a three-day national workshop on Global regulatory and fiscal capacity building on healthy diets and physical activity (Global RECAP) from 10–12 December 2024. The Global RECAP, supported by the International Development Law Organization, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the European Union, builds regulatory and fiscal policy capacity of participating countries to develop, support and implement measures to promote healthy diets and physical activity. Over 80 participants, including MoHP officials, legal experts, civil society and academics, attended the workshop. They discussed food labeling, regulations and ways to limit unhealthy food marketing. A roundtable meeting with lawyers focused on legal aspects of diet and physical activity policies. The workshop concluded with key recommendations to improve food labeling, strengthen laboratory capacity and policy enforcement to restrict unhealthy food marketing in Nepal. WHO will continue to support Nepal in implementing trans fat regulations, enhancing laboratory capacity at the federal and provincial levels, improving nutrition labeling and promoting physical activity.
